Quick chat sold me on return to Lions

Livingston winger Josh Mullin says all it took was a quick chat with David Martindale to convince him a return to West Lothian was the right move – and he’s reaping the benefits.

The former Ross County man (above) admits he was prepared to bide his time following his release from the Highland club but couldn’t turn down the chance of a return to West Lothian in October.

Sig n e d f rom Albion Rovers in the 2015/16 winter transfer window, Mullin experienced relegation from the Championship that season.

He was an integral part of the side that achieved consecutive promotions following that disappointment, but made the switch to the Staggies following Livi’s return to the top flight.

He said: “Davie was a massive part in me coming back. I’ve got a great relationship with him and I kept in touch with him.

“As soon as he knew I was away from County, he was on the phone.

“I was going to take my time but I went in to see him and sat down with him. He’s persuasive. He’s like he is on the sidelines, he doesn’t give up easily.

“When I went in to see him, it felt right to go back. I haven’t looked back since. There was a bit of talk of a few other things for me but Davie heard I was down the road and said, ‘Come and meet me for a coffee.’

“I went to meet him, walked in and he was sitting with a pen out.

“We had a good chat, it all seemed good. Things have changed at the club since the last time I was here, it’s definitely going in the right direction.”

Things seem a whole lot rosier now following a seventh straight victory and the winger says a few home truths were said which provided a catalyst for their upturn in fortunes.

He said: “When we were on our bad run we sat down and had a meeting, everyone spoke a few home truths and the boys have responded well. Everything that was said was taken on board.

“We’ll remember that feeling, what it was like, but at the same time we’re winning games and embracing it. We’ve got a massive run coming up and when you’re winning, you just want to keep playing games.”
