West Lothian College received 90 Chromebooks and iPads with MIFI dongles recently to support students who are unable to afford devices to complete work at home.

The college have already issued over

350 laptops on loan to students to help them access online learning.

The new equipment comes via the Connecting Scotland project, which is funded by the Scottish Government and managed by the Scottish Council for Voluntary Organisations (SCVO).

This project aims to support people in Scotland to develop digital skills with effective devices and internet connectivity and will benefit both students and their families.

Library staff will be in the college to sort the devices and distribute them to students on a safe click and collect basis.

The Chromebooks and iPads are for low income families and/or people who are care experienced, and may be finding it difficult to access the necessary materials in order to complete assignments and access online materials at home.

Beth Brownlee, head of quality, student support and learning resources at West Lothian College, said:“We are delighted to be able to support students in this way.

“At the college it’s always our priority for students to be at the centre of all we do and this will help so many of them complete their work effectively.”
