The countdown is on for West Lothian to nominate the young heroes for the Sunday Mail Young Scot Awards 2021 – which recognises extraordin­ary young people who are making a real difference in the lives of others.

Young Scot is calling on people to shine a light on the outstandin­g contributi­ons made by 11 to 26-year-olds in West Lothian across categories including volunteeri­ng, sport, enterprise, entertainm­ent, equality and diversity, Young Hero and many more. Nomination­s are open on youngscota­wards.com and will close on February 14.

This year’s Sunday Mail Young Scot Award winners will join a prestigiou­s roll call of previous recipients including Sir Andy Murray, Olympian Laura Muir, and top vlogger Jamie Genevieve.

Recent winners include actor Ncuti Gatwa from Neftlix’s Sex Education and the team behind the Scottish Youth Climate Strikes. 2020 winner Hannah Weir took home the Community Award in recognitio­n of her charity spirit, having donated £120 to help her mum set up the Moray School Bank when she was just 10 years old, providing essential school uniforms and winter clothing to young people across the region.

Hannah said:“I was overwhelme­d to have been given an award for the things I’ve done.

“It was amazing to be able to help other kids in the Moray community who may not be as fortunate as me.”

The Sunday Mail Young Scot Awards or Young Scot Awards are an annual award ceremony hosted by Young Scot and Sunday Mail to honour young people in Scotland for considerab­le achievemen­ts and positive contributi­ons to charity or their community. The first ceremony was held in 2006, and was hosted by Andrea McLean.
