WINTER WEATHER
The recent winter weather resulted in a huge demand for grit to keep the roads open and pavements cleared. It is quite a task as West Lothian has 1000km of roads and 1300 km of pavements. Distributed throughout the County are 2500 grit bins that are regularly topped up. An additional 10 tons of grit has been deposited near Livingston South Railway Station for people to take and use.
THE LANTHORN COMMUNITY ASSOCIATION’S SHOP
is open every Monday and Wednesday opening at 12 noon. Bags of food costing a very reasonable £3 are on sale with the contents varying each day depending on what has been delivered. The shop also have nappies, baby wipes, baby milk, cat and dog food, cleaning products, toiletries, and sanitary product available. Please note that strict Covid regulations must be adhered to when within the Lanthorn.
A COMMUNITY SURVEY
covering the Dedridge area was recently held to find out what the effects of the pandemic are having on local households. The biggest concern was increased household costs followed by mental health issues, reduced income, loneliness, childcare challenges and unemployment/ redundancy.
THE GIVING TREE PROJECT
run by the Lanthorn Community Complex to provide children in need with Christmas presents. Supported by the local community, organisations and businesses it proved a tremendous success with 7000 presents being donated.
Families that received donations were from referrals made from nurseries, local schools, social workers and Dedridge Health Centre. The Lanthorn also expressed their sincere thanks to their volunteers, Sharon and Keri who carried out the considerable task of assisting with the organisation of project as well as ensuring the collection and delivery of parcels and food hampers.
THE DEDRIDGE REGENERATION GROUP
To make the museum more appealing and exciting than it already is, various displays are being stripped and dismantled.
If you go into the facebook page you will see ongoing photos of before and during the changes, but to see the after photos of the finished display, you will have to visit the museum when we are allowed to re-open.
Many people, businesses and organisations have sponsored display cabinets in Military Museum Scotland in the past and we rely on sponsorship to help keep the museum open, its not as expensive as you may think. If you or your organisation want to sponsor an artefact, display or a cabinet please get in touch by email to milmussco@aol.co.uk.
Your sponsorship will make a big difference. Now is the time to do it as the museum is going through a major change. ALMONDELL COUNTRY PARK
