Goalhero hailsLivi’s journey

-

Match-winner Scott Robinson reflected on the‘great journey’both he and the club have taken after the striker fired the Lions into the

Betfred Cup final.

The 28-year-old former Hearts and Kilmarnock man was lining up against Livi in League One just four years ago at part-time East Fife.

Injuries had taken their toll on the striker and forced him into the third tier.

Since then, though, Robinson and Livi have been a perfect match. He signed for the Lions and returned to full-time football following that season and neither party has looked back.

He said:“We have been on a great journey as a club, all the way from League One right the way up to the Premiership.

“We have been able to hold our own and now we’re in a national cup final so it’s a really massive achievement for this club.”

He’s been to cup finals before, winning the Scottish Cup with Hearts, but a return must have looked impossible during those days in the third tier.

Robbo said:“To be back here in a cup semi-final at Hampden just shows all the hard work has paid off.

“If you have that belief in yourself and you never give up then good things can happen.

“I didn’t have another job at East Fife – I said to myself I’d give it one year and give it absolutely everything in that one year to get back to full-time football.

“Thankfully I managed that the first time of asking.

“I’m really thankful I found a club like Livingston.

“I’ll probably sit down and think back on things like that and how far I’ve come. It’s where you want to be as a player.

“I’m in a fabulous dressingroom with a great bunch of lads and I just hope we can go on and lift the trophy now.”

The attacker has been in a rich vein of form since being deployed as the lone striker, with his semi-final winner making it four goals in six games.

This one, though, means a little bit more than the ones he’s netted in the league.

“Any goal is special but to send your team-mates through to a final is amazing. It means everything to me,”he said.“This club has come a long way since I’ve been here.

“Everyone writes us off every season. Now here we are, we are going to be playing in a national final.”
