Work nearly done on new luxury marina
Work on the plush canal marina in West Lothian is nearing completion.
New images show the final stages of Winchburgh’s canal marina project, with the area being prepared to be filled with water in the upcoming weeks ahead.
The new marina will be at the heart of the new town centre in Wnchburgh.
Up to 20 barges will be able to moor in the marina and will be supported by a Scottish Canals facility on site.
Local residents will be able to enjoy the new restaurants and cafes that will sit alongside the water’s edge when the marina is open to the public.
Locals can also wander along the canal to the new Auldcathie Park.
The new district park will feature a dedicated bike park, additional paths and fitness trails, extensive wildlife areas and a community orchard.
The developers say the project is nearly finished and thanked the local community for the patience.
A spokesperson for Winchburgh
Developments said online: “This month we will see the dam’s reopened and the Marina filled over a two day period.
“We’ll let you know the dates very soon.
“Great to see the completion ahead, as we all come out of lockdown.
“Thank you to the community of Winchburgh working from home, while the construction works have carried on by our contractors I & H Brown Ltd.”
The developers have been busy in recent months, with work also underway at the new district park, three primary schools and the current phase of housebuilding.
Daisy Park will be built close to the canal marina for the local neighbourhood and will feature a quarry to be used alongside the canal for various community water activities.
Local schools will be encouraged to use the water facilities as part of their regular outdoor activities, as well as the wider community sports clubs and visitors to the area.
Winchburgh is one of the largest placemaking projects currently underway in the UK.
