LIB DEMS -

-

Think how quickly the past decade has flown by. We’ve wasted it on damaging constitutional arguments. The planet can’t wait while we rehash them.

We have less than a decade to stop irreversible, devastating damage. Millions of people will be displaced, their homes destroyed by fire and flood, if we fail.

Liberal Democrats have always aimed to hand a better world to future generations.

Our ambitious plans to tackle the climate emergency will reduce demand for fossil fuels by moving one million homes to zero emission heating and producing all our electricity from renewable sources by 2030. This will create thousands of jobs and help areas heavily reliant on fossil fuels to transition to new industries, We’ll help the economy become more climate friendly by giving people grants to retrain in the skills of the future.

We’ll ensure new homes are built to the Passivhaus standards which reduce energy usage by 75% and invest in insulation programmes. We’ll double fuel poverty budgets to ensure people don’t have to choose between heating and eating.

We’ll plant 36 million trees every year and our nature recovery law will clean up our air, soils, seas and rivers. This is particularly important given the too frequent pollution of the River Almond with sewage. I support the work of the River Almond Action Group.

A national network of rapid chargers will help encourage people into electric vehicles and we’lll invest in low carbon public transport.
