Seafield’s David Philp Jr was crowned 2021 ORCi Stock Rod World Final champion after a fine performance at the Cowdenbeath Racewall.

It was a tense finish to the race which Philp had led from start to finish but a couple of race suspensions saw his comfortable lead all but disappear.

In his heats, he picked up a win as well

as a fourth place whilst other local drivers Leon Stewart (Kirknewton) had a runnerup spot and Taylor Borthwick (Armadale) picked up a sixth and 10th place finish in the heats but both were forced to retire in the final.

Philp, though, went straight into the lead and initially built up a big advantage which disappeared after Stewart’s shunt.

He led on the restart and had again built up another useful lead only for there to be another stoppage. Again, he led on the restart but was under fierce challenge as he crossed the finish line.

Martin Rankine (Bathgate) went on to win the B Final as a consolation for just missing out on qualifying for the World Final while Willie Mitchell (East Calder) was racing his Saloon and his only result came during the final where he came home in second spot.

The following day, the ORCi drivers were racing for the World Masters and in the heats Philp picked up an eight then a sixth with Stewart sixth in one of his heats.

Nicole Russell (Longridge) was racing in their Prostock Basics. She finished 10th in heat one but retired in heat two. She did, however finish fourth in the final.
