Ten man United undone by late strike

Four West Lothian clubs pulled off cup wins against higher division sides on Saturday - while West Calder United fell just short against Berwick Rangers.

United took the lead through James Miller but were a goal and a man down at the break as Kieran McGrath and Lewis Baker netted for Berwick.

Baker slammed home from the penalty spot after United’s David Taylor was sent-off for a last man challenge.

Gary Shanks levelled things up but Berwick would progress into the third round of the East of Scotland Qualifying Cup thanks to a late Lewis Barr strike.

In the first round of the Challenge Cup, Gordon Herd picked up his first win as Linlithgow Rose boss with a 2-1 victory over East Stirlingsh­ire. Jack Ogilvie and Alan Docherty netted for the Rose.

Pumphersto­n grabbed a resounding 5-1 win at home to Lowland League outfit Vale of Leithen with two goals from Scott McGregor as well as strikes from Lee Fairley,

Campbell Anthony and John Batt.

Armadale Thistle hit half a dozen past Craigroyst­on for a comfortabl­e 6-2 win thanks to a John-James Henderson hat-trick. Robbie Feeney grabbed a brace with Callum Rodger also scoring.

Whitburn are also through after beating Edinburgh South 4-2 away from home.

Declyn Cumming netted from 25 yards five minutes in but the hosts netted twice in quick succession to get themselves in front before Louis

Maguire equalised just before the break.

Second half strikes from Martin Russell and Martin McGrahan ensured the win.

In league action, Broxburn Athletic made it seven games unbeaten with a 2-2 draw away to Inverkeith­ing Hillfield Swifts thanks to goals from Joe Tait and Gary Brass early in each half.

Harthill Royal drew 2-2 away to BSC Glasgow in a West of Scotland Division Four fixture.
