Residents remember the fallen

- DEBBIE HALL

Residents at Woodlands Nursing Home in Livingston have had a busy few months.

Most recently they launched their second Poppy Scotland Appeal and created another wonderful mural.

This appeal proved even more successful than the first, seeing residents collaborating to create a Remembrance Day mural which was proudly displayed at the entrance of the home. And once again they also made and sold their own poppies and raised £35 for Poppy Scotland.

A special Remembrance Day service was held at the home, conducted by Nathan Young and Paul Henderson from Almondvale Gospel Hall, Nigel Rise, Dedridge.

Regular church services have now resumed at the home and staff said a big thank you to the church for being so generous with their time, saying residents and families much appreciate it.

Last month they also enjoyed the Senior Sporting Games and Award Ceremony.

Woodlands represented the whole of West Lothian this past October in the 2021 Senior Sporting Games, winning silver and bronze medals in two of the events.

They attended a lavish award ceremony at the Glynhill Hotel and Spa in Renfrew where residents were wined and dined and received their medals in style.

Daniel Heath, activity co-ordinator, said: “A big thank you to Avril Clerkson from West Lothian Leisure for her support, Xcite, and to Janet Leith and the team for organizing and facilitating our involvement in the games.”

He said residents were also recently invited to the OPAL TITP event put on by Cyrenians at Livingston Stadium.

He continued: “It was a fabulous afternoon and Billie Skene and her team did a brilliant job organizing and hosting the event, which featured the always excellent Gary Copland, bingo and a raffle, and a superb brass medley from the Kinneil band.

“Our residents had a wonderful time and we very much look forward to attending future Cyrenians events.

“A massive thank you also to the families of our residents for donating to our Digital Rainbow Table fundraiser! Thanks to them we are getting close to our target, and their kindness, generosity and continued all-round support is both humbling and greatly appreciated!

“And a special thank you to Jackie Galloway, Community Champion at Morrisons for donating some goodies for us to raffle toward the Rainbow Table fund. Jackie was also on hand at the Cyrenians event and she’ll be collaborating with myself and our residents for some upcoming festive activities.

“It has been a busy few months for our residents, and with Christmas right around the corner there’ll be no slowing them down!”
