Kuk Sool Won shine at UK Championships
A family run martial arts school is celebrating after scooping a host of top awards at the UK Championships.
Kuk Sool Won of Livingston travelled to Liverpool and came away with a tremendous third place overall as well as a number of impressive individual results.
Abbie Edmiston, who owns the club along with husband John, said: “We went to the UK Championships in Liverpool with 30 of our Livingston students from white belt all the way up to black belt.
“We managed to get third place overall, just behind two Liverpool schools and we are totally delighted with this result.
“We also had three of our black belts manage to get Grand Champions as overall winners across five events in their category and six students officially promoted to 1st degree black belt after many years of training.”
She added: “Our school continues to grow and bloom and we are so proud of each and every student that went to Liverpool to represent our school.”
The couple’s children Mia (aged nine) and eight-month-old Ollie are also a big part of the gym and train every night.
The school teaches children from Primary 1 up to adult and are reaping the rewards after continuing to train hard during lockdown when classes were held over Zoom.
They also recently opened their own dojang in Polbeth and were able to welcome back face-to-face training.
The club’s three overall Grand Champions were: Jkn Louis Callaghan (over-40s), Ksn Cameron McGee (male youth), and Ksn Ellie Nicol (female grand champion 18-39 age group).
Benjamin Burger, Mia Edmiston, Robbie Hawthorn, Charlotte Laing, Sharon Little and Paul McEleney were all promoted to 1st degree black belt.
