Budding actor lands role in top TV show
A West Lothian schoolboy and budding actor has bagged a dream role on hit show Outlander and was made to feel “like a VIP” while filming.
Alex Dunlop (10) will appear in an upcoming episode of series six of the historical drama show.
Alex was asked to do an audition through his time at Performance Academy theatre group, which he attends on Saturday afternoons in Bathgate.
He had never done an audition before and because of covid, his nail-biting audition was conducted through a Whatsapp video chat.
His mum Rachael and dad Mark said they didn’t give the audition another thought and were blown away when they heard back from the production company to be offered a different part.
His parents said: “Alex had an amazing time on set.
“Even before he was given a part, he was invited through to Cumbernauld, where they were shooting, to do various measurements for outfits etc – at this point, we didn’t even know if had a part or not, and he was even loving this experience – feeling very important, almost being treated like the star of the show.
“He was amazed at all the sets that were set up for various scenes, and loved seeing all the outfits, wigs and props etc.
“When going back through for the actual filming, we were picked up by private car with driver, who took us through from West Lothian to Cumbernauld (bringing us home also).
“It was VIP service all the way, as when we arrived, we were taken to our own little caravan and given a menu for lunch.
“We had a runner who checked on us for our every need which was great. It was a great experience.
“A few days later we got a call because they wanted to re-film a small part.
“So, we got to do it all again!” Alex’s parents said his time filming the show was “a great experience that will never be forgotten”.
They are currently counting down the episodes until they can see their son on TV.
