Weekend of drama ahead for local clubs

Saturday could prove to be a day of real drama as the East of Scotland leagues near their conclusion.

In the Premier Division, Linlithgow Rose have squandered their chance to win the title with disappointing results over recent weeks but they will have a huge say on who wins the league as they travel to Penicuik Athletic.

The Cuikie are behind Tranent in the title race only on goal difference heading into the final game of the season with Tranent hosting Jeanfield Swifts, who sit fourth.

Blackburn United know a win away to fifth-place Crossgates Primrose will secure their top flight status for another year but defeat will have them frantically searching for results elsewhere.

Should the Burnie lose, wins for Lothian Thistle Hutchison Vale and Dunbar United could see them fall into the relegation zone on the final day while they sit above both Hill of Beath Hawthorn and Tynecastle on goal difference.

Broxburn Athletic are comfortably mid-table but will be keen to end their season on a high when they host Sauchie.

Both Linlithgow and Broxburn are still in cup action despite their league campaigns coming to an end this weekend. The two sides are in League Cup action next Friday night while the Rose still have the East of Scotland Qualifying Cup final to play.

In Conference X there’s a thrilling derby clash set for Volunteer Park as Armadale Thistle host Whitburn.

The Dale’s chances of promotion are now extremely slim at best but a win over their near neighbours would both keep their own hopes alive while putting a dent into the Burnie’s bid for a place in next season’s Division Two.

Both clubs will have two games remaining following Saturday’s derby.

Stoneyburn could also have a say on the promotion race should they pull off a shock victory over Syngenta.

Elsewhere in the division, Iain Diack will take charge of Fauldhouse United for the first time when they play host to West Calder United.
