Come along to a Celebratio­n Afternoon Tea in Kirknewton’s refurbishe­d Village Hall on Friday June 3. There will be 2 sessions 11-1pm and 2-4pm. Kids activities will be available.

REUSE AND THRIVE

Our Community Shop in East Calder is open every Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 10-2pm. We welcome donations especially bric a brac and these can be handed in on opening hours. The shops stocks a wide range of bric a brac (glasses, crockery, ornaments, pictures) clothes, toys, jigsaws and books. We also have the free boxes outside or inside on a wet day which are fun to rummage.. Do you fancy volunteeri­ng for a 2 hour shift on one of our days? You need not have had any experience and you will be trained. Ask when you are next in the shop.

Last August we were honoured and proud to host 6 Chelsea Pensioners at Military Museum

Scotland. An occasion that we hope to repeat this August. We have formed a great

relationsh­ip with the Royal Hospital Chelsea. So much so we plan to put on a small

exhibition dedicated to the Chelsea Pensioners. Founder's Day is the highlight of the Royal

Hospital Chelsea’s calendar, an event attended by all Chelsea Pensioners, which celebrates

the founding of the Royal Hospital by King Charles II. We will hold this

exhibition over the

weekend of June 10-12, (Founders Day is the 9th).

KIRKNEWTON COMMUNITY FOOTBALL CLUB

This club will be based in Kirknewton and will be running for the Season 202223.

We will be hoping to be involved within the community and we will have a Sunday morning amateur team playing in LEAFA leagues, previously we were East Calder CFC. We are looking

forward to getting started and we will be having some open training sessions for any players looking for a team. Training will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7-8.30pm at Kirknewton Pitch,.

We have spoken to a few local businesses as well and are always on the lookout for sponsors. If you want to be involved in the club on a playing or a business capacity, please do let us know.

ASHTANGA YOGA

An Ashtanga yoga General level class is held on Mondays from 10-11am and 5.306.30pm in the village hall. Please bring your own mats and please eat your last meal at least an hour before you arrive. This class activates the digestive tract and is best done on an empty tummy.

Cost £8 per class, cash payments please for time being please. .

The Military Museum Scotland has been awarded a grant from Museum Galleries Scotland to rebuild the WWI Trench. A completely new trench will be built, but the existing trench will be carefully dismantled and reused as much as possible. The existing trench took about 2.5 years to construct due to storm damage so it has been decided to build a replacemen­t. Please drop me an email if you can help. to Ian Inglis milmussco@ yahoo.com.

SPORTS PAVILION

Kirknewton Community Developmen­t Trust is trialling a scheme which will see the Pavilion open to the public to purchase hot and cold drinks. The toilets will also be available for use.

Opening times Mondays and Wednesdays 9-11am and 3-5pm. Please note we can only take cash at this time.

COMMUNITY LISTENING PROJECT

This is be held every Monday from 1-3pm in East Calder Church Hall. Please pop along for a cuppa and some company. This cafe will aim to help people move out of restrictio­ns and mix with others again.

Combating loneliness, isolation, low mood and give a place for people to come into contact with others who have time for a coffee and some company.

We hope this project in time can become an integrated part of the community providing a valuable service to those who can benefit from it. We are starting small but hope we can grow together.

when we celebrate our 100 years birthday starts on Sunday June 5 with the Queens Platinum Jubilee Big Lunch in the Dave King Partnershi­p Centre Car Park from 1-3pm.

The area will be decorated with flags and bunting, tables and chairs will be supplied but bring along your own food and drinks plus your family and friends.

The events planned that week will be a week of Children’s sporting events, Art Competitio­n, Fancy Dress Competitio­n, Grand Carnival, Gala Quiz, Crowning Ceremony and to Finish with a Fantastic Gala Day on Saturday June 11, where we will have Face Painters,

Inflatable­s, Pony Rides, Magic Show, Fun Races, It’s-a- Knockout and many more activities.

The Finale will be our very own Music Festival called Music on the Muddies in the evening. We will have a licenced outside bar in a security fence area, restricted to 500 over 18s, and a larger area for families for you all to enjoy the 6 local bands playing for your entertainm­ent. Entry is free to all. All households in East Calder will now have received their copy of the Souvenir Programme giving details of these events.

LADIES AND MENS MENTAL HEALTH SUPPORT GROUP

This group for ladies offers peer support, confidence building, social activities and advice and support . No registrati­on so just pop into the Dave King partnershi­p Centre, East Calder EH53 0EP on Mondays from 6.30-8.30pm.

The Men’s Support Group is back again and meets on Wednesdays from 7-9pm also in the Partnershi­p Centre,

WHITBURN COMMUNITY DEVELOPMEN­T TRUST

are still looking for volunteers to help support their community garden project on a Monday and Thursday afternoons 1pm to 4pm. Please get in touch even if you could only do an hour or so every little helps.

As they continue to add more raised beds they need support in planting, weeding, watering all the plants, building raised beds including other general tasks to upkeep and maintain the garden space. You don’t need any experience, as we are all learning as we go and learning from each other. Best of all you get a cup of tea, biscuit and a blether with good people.
