Power pylon fire in village

Emergency crews were called to Wisborough Green on Friday to reports of an electricity pylon on fire.

Billingshurst Fire Station said village residents lost power and crews worked with the electricity firm to get the power back on.

A spokesman for West Sussex Fire & Rescue Service said at the time of the incident: “We were called to reports of a power line on fire off Harsfold Lane in Wisborough Green at 3.12pm this afternoon (June 26).

“Retained firefighters from Billingshurst Fire Station were mobilised to the scene, and upon arrival found one high voltage power pylon on fire. Crews extinguished the fire, and remain in attendance at the scene alongside the utilities provider.”

A spokesman for SSE apologised for the power outage. He said engineers worked at the site to get power restored.
