New group leader for Lib Dems

-

The Horsham Liberal Democrats have selected a new group leader on the district council.

At last May’s election the party increased its number of seats from four to 13, with the Conservatives comfortably retaining overall control.

Since David Skipp, who has been Lib Dem group leader at HDC since 2015, is vice-chairman of the council for 2020/21, elections were held in the group for a replacement.

Frances Haigh (Denne) has been selected as the new Lib Dem group leader, with Matt Allen (Broadbridge Heath) picked as her deputy.

She previously held the same position before losing her seat at the 2015 council election.

Ms Haigh said: “I look forward to serving the Horsham community in my new role on the council. The Horsham district faces a lot of challenges over the next year.

“Coronavirus will dominate discussions but there are also other issues that will continue in the background such as agreeing a new local plan and ensuring the survival of the Drill Hall. It’s vital that Horsham residents have their voices heard and we’re determined to do that on the council.”

Mr Allen added: “I’m really thrilled to play a role in shaping the future of Horsham. Frances will be an excellent leader and I’m looking forward to supporting her over the next year.”
