Mannings Heath continue their transatlantic theme

-

A week after staging their popularMasterscompetition, Mannings Heath continued the transatlantic theme on Saturday with an American Foursomes pairs event.

Each pair received half their combined handicaps with both players teeing off on each hole, playing their second shot with their partner’s ball and then selecting the ball to continue with in the traditional alternate shot format.

Despite the showers and strong winds there were several outstanding scores. Brian Easter and Nigel Evans led the way with nett 61.5 after going round in one over par gross with three birdies on their card.

Hot on their heels with nett 62 off 15 were Michael Grange and Ben Perry who just took runner-up spot on countback from Jonathan Cornell and Kit Lofthouse helped by a brilliant eagle on the 17th.

Fourth place prize money went to Andrew and Mark Barrett with nett 65.

The fierce winds persisted for Sunday’s stableford competition but proved no problem for three handicap Joe White as he went round in two under par gross for a splendid 41 points.

Only a point behind him Alan Peacock took the family bragging rights from son Aaron on a back nine countback with Jonathan Cornell in fourth place on the same mark.

Earlier,

Heath’s junior stableford saw club champion Jack Osborne claim his second win in a row with 40 points.

The impressive two handicapper was two under par gross and finished three clear of Ashley Head and five ahead of Jake Boddie.

The seniors were also in stableford action with a strong turnout contesting the George Richardson Cup.

A third of the field equalled or better the par of 36 but it was 16-handicap Gerry Woods who claimed the trophy with a fine 42 point card that contained eight pars and a bogey. John Gleaves and Andy Bone were only a point behind with Gleaves’s marginally better back nine earning him runner-up spot while the evergreen Eddie Searles took the over-80s prize with 37.
