Time T to... #supportlocal
A new shop with a focus firmly on ‘local’ is opening in Horsham town centre today (Thursday).
Local brewery firm Hepworth and Company is opening the new store in East Street.
As well as offering Sussex ales and lagers, the shop will stock Sussex cheese, Sussexmade chocolate, jams, jellies andchutneys - andChristmas cake made with Hepworth’s own ale.
Director Christie Price said: “We may also offer local needlepoint tapestries based on beer labels - wisdom on how to do it yourself will be on hand!”
Hepworth and Co was based in Horsham for 18 years and now has purposebuilt premises just outside Pulborough where it also has a shop offering takeaways and deliveries.
A nearby store has also launched its festive window display in a bid to lift people’s spirits.
Rossella and Marek Raciti, owners of Carmela Deli in the Carfax, designed the Christmas display to cheer up the town after months of restrictions on daily life.
Rossella said: “We did this especially for the kids.
“Everybody is in a bad mood at the moment. With the light on it does look more Christmassy for everybody.
“It is to cheer up everybody in Horsham to be smiling again after this.”
She added that the decorations in the window are not for sale but that she hopes they will bring joy to people.
Rossella said the deli has stayed open during the second lockdown as it is an essential store butit is limited to one customer at a time.
She added: “I like to help Horsham people. Last time it was very difficult for some people. I will try to stay open for them.”
Rossella said young people are in an especially tough position and are ‘stressed out’ so she hopes the festive display will help cheer them up.
Meanwhile, a new bakery - Gwyn’s in the Bishopric - is already making its mark on the town after opening last week. Experienced chef and baker Benjamin Lines has been working on opening the bakery for the past year.
He said: “As well as the daily bakes, there is a takeaway café and the bakery stocks a useful range of flours to bake bread at home and an increasing range of local and authentic produce so there is always a reason to stop by through the day.”
