Artists set to light up Wiston Estate for Christmas trail

A one-mile long light art walk which features installati­ons from world-renowned artists is set to open in Steyning next week.

Inspired by the theme ‘Hope’ in what has been a difficult year for many, the Christmas trail will take place in the grounds of Wiston Estate from Tuesday, December 8.

Created by Light Up Trails, the event will be held daily between 4pm and 10pm and will run until January 3, 2021.

A spokesman for Light Up Trails said: “This is the perfect family event, with every necessity thoroughly thought out, including ‘quiet slots’, for those who require them, on December 9.

“Create precious memories with family and friends this Christmas at Light Up Wiston Estate.”

Among the artists creating the installati­ons is lighting designer James Smith who has previously collaborat­ed on projects for Light Up Trails around the UK.

He and has worked in the global entertainm­ent industry for more than 16 years, with a lengthy list of theatrical credits to his name, including touring production­s of The Greatest Showman, The Wind in the Willows musical, Mamma Mia and Jekyll and Hyde.

He is the only artist creating four installati­ons for the event inluding opening piece ‘Garden of Hope’, ‘Christmas at Wiston House’, ‘Reflection­s’, and finally, at the end of the trail is The Enchanted Forest.

Ben Clegg is another of Light Up Wiston Estate’s most famous designers and is best known for his ‘Rainbow in the Dark’ projects, first seen at the Art in the Dark lighting festival in New Zealand.

Another key designer is The Projection Studio, led by multi award-winning projection artist Ross Ashton. The Projection Studio specialise in large format projection­s, and their work has been seen by millions around the world since 1994.

The company’s specially designed projection­s have been featured at internatio­nal events such as the 2012 Olympic Games, the FIFA World Cup, Berlin Light Festival, and The Queen’s Jubilee celebratio­n. They also hold the Guinness World Record for the world’s largest collaborat­ive artwork.
