More than 50 handmade Christmas cards were given to residents at a Horsham care home thanks to two young sisters.

It was the second year four-year-old Soraya Jacobs, along wth her sister Fern, six, wanted to do something for those who may have to spend the festive season on their own.

Soraya enlisted the help of her new reception classmates at Heron Way Primary School to help the siblings make enough personalised cards for those living at Rosedale Care Home in Kings Road.

Michael Jacobs, the girls’ dad, said: “Last year Fern and Soraya watched a BBC morning programme with Dan Walker meeting a man who had spent many Christmas times on this own.

“It inspired them to make cards and sort presents for all the guests of Horsham’s Rosedale Care Home.

“With 2020 being a very

different year and having lost their grandpa in May aged 98, it made them realise again that even though their grandma (95) wouldn’t be alone, many would be and so decided to make personalised cards for every resident of the same care home.

“An amazing effort from all the kids amassing over 50 cards meaning each resident would get at least three personalised cards each as would the staff

and Rosemary the owner/ manager of the home.

“The love and effort put in by all the reception children of Heron Way really did bring a smile to the residents and staff who have had no guests this year during the Covid pandemic, so it’s brought a lot of happiness during challenging times.”

The cards were quarantined after being delivered and were opened by the residents on Sunday, December 20.
