Golfers get final games in before new closure
Horsham Golf Club’ s seniors didn’ t play any league matches in December–and Winter League matches have now been put on hold for the time being.
Before Christmas, heavy conditions didn’t stop the seniors getting on to the course to enjoy their weekly competitions.
The first two-day seniors’ competition was a Turkey T rot Stable ford qualifier, won on the Tuesday by Bob Andrews on 37 points. Second was Martin Jesty on 35 and third David O’ Flynn with 34.
The next day Tad Paluchow ski won first prize with 36 points, second was Will Pitt with 35, third Alan Butt with 34.
Wntry conditions did not deter Mark Smith from scoring a great hole in one on the third hole.
The next two-day competition was a stroke play Texas scramble with Shaun Moloney, Chris Meredith, Bob Andrews and David Mellor coming in first on the Tuesday with a nett 59.5.
Second with a nett score of 60.3 were Martin Jesty, Nigel Jerome and David Bingham.
The next day, Trevor White, Len Coutts and Derek Shadbolt won with a nett score of 58.4. Denis Wright, Steve Lane and Don Johnston were second on 60.7.
The last competitions be--fore Christmas were a fourball better ball for the Tony Lake r Trophy on the Tuesday and a Stable ford non- qualifier on the Wednesday.
The Tony Laker Trophy was won by Nigel Jerome and David Mellor with 47 points, second were Martin Jesty and Bob Andrews on 44 and third were Will Pit ta nd Chris Frogley with 41.
Bob Andrews won the Tuesday Turkey Trot with Martin Jesty second.
The Wednesday competition was close but was won by Alan Butt on 34 points.
Mark Smith was second with 33 and T ad Pa lu chow ski third with 32.
This was the last competition for the seniors before Sussex was placed in tier four, which has now led into the third national lockdown.
