FA Cup cash is vital for Crawley

-

Crawley Town technical director Erdem Konyar has welcomed the cash injection that comes with beating Leeds United in the FA Cup.

The stunning victory will be rewarded with a healthy financial boost toReds’coffers- withmoremoneyup for grabs if the Reds progress further.

Although the FA have reduced the prize money fund this season after the pandemic caused financial havoc, winners in each round are able to benefit from a substantial pot of cash. The fund sees £61,500 on offer to the winners of third-round ties.

Apart from the normal prize money, clubs also receive a fixed payment every time their match is on TV.

As the clash with Leeds United was shown on the BBC, both sides will net a cool £75,000, which takes Crawley’s total for the third round to £136,500. Konyar says it’s a massive boost. He said: “In a Covid pandemic times, any money is welcome but it’s a massive boost and injection into the club’s desire to make it a self-sustainable business.

“I think that’s the most important step for Crawley. If we can make it a self-sustainable business it becomes a different picture. We can’t be haemorrhaging money.

“The chairman has put a lot of money up for this club and it’ s a great moment for us.”

The Reds will be looking to add more money to their coffers when they visit Bournemouth next weekend in the fourth round. A win will see them net £180,000.

If they win, they will face either Fulham or Burnley away.
