BSA Cup victory for Sussex rifle team
The results of the BSA Cup have been confirmed with Sussex winning the top category in the short range competition against strong opposition including two teams from New Zealand and one from Australia.
The short range competition is generally shot at 25-yards although it can also be shot at 15 or 20-yards or 25 metres with the appropriate targets being used for the length of range.
Each team consists of 12 marksmen with each marksman shooting two ten shot cards.
The Sussex winning score was2359ex2400,threepoints ahead of second-placed Surrey with 2356.
Wellington, representing New Zealand, finished third, also with a score of 2356, however, although both teams scored the same number of 100s with four apiece, Surrey scored ten 99s to Wellington’s seven and this determined the final positions when there is such a tie.
Such was the competition between the teams that Kent and Aberdeenshire each scored 2354 and once again they were separated by the tie breaker, Kent scoring seven 100s to Aberdeenshire’s three thus earning Kent fourth.
The winning Sussex team are awarded the BSA Cup plus silver medals for each of the team members and captain.
Top scores for Sussex were Rob Dowling (Chichester) and Mike Arditi (Horsham) each with 199.
The duo were followed by Adam Cornbill (Chichester) and Nick Mullins (5th Sussex HG) 198 and Robin Brown (Uckfield), Hamish Matheson (Chichester), Charles White and David White (East Grinstead) 197.
