Olympic spirits are high for Blue Star young guns

-

Olympic spirits were running high at Broadbridge Heath track last week as young athletes from Horsham Blue Stars took part in their own Olympic celebration in anticipation of the Games starting today in Tokyo.

Representing country teams the athletes took to the track with a 60m sprint shuttle relay followed on the field with a javelin howler throw and a long jump.

Back on the track they raced over a 75m sprint then the evening’s final event to decide the winning team was the flag relay.

Over the next two weeks the young Blue Star athletes are looking forward to watching their favourite track and field stars in Tokyo and will be looking out for Sussex coached athlete Sophie McKinna in the shot put, GB’s top sprinter Dina Asher-Smith in the 200m and 4x100m Relay and Jake Wightman in the 1,500m.

Coach Susan Wightman, aformerOlympianandmum of Jake, said: “We have waited five years for these Olympics to come around and we hope there is lots of British success to inspire Horsham Blue Stars athletes.”

Blue Stars are looking forward to welcoming new and inspired youngsters following the Tokyo Olympics. This does however require a large number of volunteers.

In order to allow athletes to compete in the wide range on competitions new volunteers are very much needed.

If you can spare as little as an hour a week and would like to get involved with this energetic group of young people please contact the club volunteer coordinator Elspeth on 07734 025143.
