Shootout despair for Bears, Loxwood win

Our local sides were in FA Vase first qualifying round action on Saturday.

It took 17 goals to decide the heart-breaking outcome of Broadbridg­e Heath ’s game against visiting Croydon.

Heath went ahead when Nic Taylor virtually threw the ball into his own net, and, Heath doubled their lead when a through ball from Jamie Taylor was well chased down by Lewis Croal with Nic Taylor stranded.

Richard Pinging reduced the deficit, but Heath led 2-1 at the interval.

Midway through the second half, poor defending enabled Croydon to draw level. And, with time rapidly evaporatin­g, the visitors did score, Josh Owen finishing well.

However, Heath were not done, Alfie Jones equalising to set up a shootout, which, Heath lost 5-6.

Heath host Peacehaven in the SCFL Premier this Saturday.

Loxwood advanced to the next round after a 1-0 home win over Faversham Strike Force.

Samuel Smith’s 55th minute goal set up a home tie with Erith & Belvedere on Saturday, September 25.

Off the pitch, the Magpies have appointed Paul Dollner as the club’s new manager.

Loxwood travel to Saltdean in the SCFL Premier

this Saturday.

Ten-man Horsham YMCA were well-beaten 4-0 away at Abbey Rangers.

Tuesday night saw YM lose 4-0 at home to Saltdean in the SCFL Premier. YMCA visit Crawley Down Gatwick this Saturday.

Steyning Town lost 3-1 at Raynes Park Vale, Tom Bold netting for Town. They welcome Bexhill this Saturday.

Storringto­n were beaten 4-0 at Lordswood. The Swans visit Dorking Wanderers Reserves in SCFL Division One this Saturday.

In the SCFL Premier on Saturday, Alfold fell to a 3-2 defeat away at Littlehamp­ton Town.

Devon Fender and Sam Lemon were on the scoresheet for Fold. Alfold host AFC Uckfield Town this Saturday.

West Chiltingto­n won their first game of the season with a 2-0 victory at Stedham United in the West Sussex Premier Division.

Chilt were indebted to a penalty from Gary Weedon and a fine finish from Jonny Cooper on his debut.
