Bowman feasts on the Dinner Cup pickings
Tom Bowman's backers at Mannings Heath's Dinner Cup auction were handsomely rewarded the next day when their selection romped home with 41 points.
Showing no traces of 'the morning after the night before', Bowman notched 11 pars and a birdie off his 12 handicap to beat a clutch of players on 37 points led by Mark Jefford and followed by vicecaptain Darren Hanison and Steve Batley.
Heath's Sunday medal competition was won by tenhandicap Lorcan Conneely whose fine nett 68 featured three birdies and nothing worse than a bogey. Nearest challengers Matt Pateman and Stuart Sandell were four and five shots behind.
The seniors meanwhile contested the George Richardson Cup with Anthony Miller using his 24 handicap
to formidable effect with a 44 point card that included six pars.
Ron Uttley took second place on countback from Phil Westlake thanks to a back nine that included three birdies.
A busy few days for the ladies saw Margaret Brown, playing off 24, earn a countback win over Emma Francis to claim the Beryl Jones Putter with a nett 71 that included six pars.
But Francis could be proud of running her close after opting to play off the orange tees, a thousand yards further back. Debs Battle was third with nett 72.
Those ladies who teed off at 5.30am in the mid-summer Early Bird competition were rewarded with perfect weather and a new fun format.
Players were allowed two mulligans and could earn extra points on par threes by playing off purple or orange tees. Carolyn Kimberley claimed the trophy with 42 points followed by Margaret Brown,40, and Jakki Tidey, 38.
