Sussex village launches new guide
An interactive guide to a West Sussex village has been launched.
The Hurstpierpoint Heritage Trail has gone live.
The Hurstpierpoint Society, in partnership with Hurstpierpoint and Sayers Common Parish Council, launched it last Tuesday.
The fun and educational trail begins near the Village Garden with a large schematic and a QR code.
Hurstpierpoint Society member Christopher Maidment, who designed, collated and edited the guide, said people scan the code with a smartphone.
This takes them through to the guide at hurstpierpointsociety.org. uk, which includes a map and facts about each location.
People can switch between the map and the guide and a printed pamphlet will be available around the village.
“All the text that is in green is a link to something,” said Christopher.
The system is intuitive, he said, and does not stop people who simply want to carry on with the trail either.
Locations include The Workhouse and Forge, Chichester House, The Great Fire – Southdown Terrace, The Old Fire Station and Holy Trinity Church.
Lyn Williams, chairman of The Hurstpierpoint Society said: “This has been a wonderful collaboration between The Hurstpierpoint Society and Hurstpierpoint and Sayers Common Parish Council, building on the work of others in the village to ensure the heritage of our wonderful village is continued and appreciated by future generations.”
Claire Majsai, chair of the parish council’s Community Engagement Committee said: “The parish council has been working with Hurstpierpoint Society since early last year to make the Heritage Trail around our historic village a reality.”
She said the trail built on the public walks researched and led by the late Ian Nelson, who died in May last year.
She thanked Ann Bricknell, Mid Sussex District Council’s estates officer Nathan Whitington, Lorna Cooksey, Andrew Gomm at the Sussex Sign Company and Christopher Maidment for their hard work on the project.
She also thanked the Community Engagement Committee for funding it.
