England call up for West Sussex teenager
Southwater resident and Tanbridge House School student Harry Lee, 15, has recently received his first call up to the England under-16 football squad.
Harry, a right back, was signed by Brighton & Hove Albion academy two years ago.
Now vice-captain for the under-16’s squad, he was spotted by England scouts during academy matches and invited to attend a fiveday residential fixture camp at St George’s Park, home of England’s football set-up.
After four days of intensive training and analysis, Harry was named in the starting lineup of an under-16 international match against Scotland, which was played on the final day.
The score ended 3-2 to England, after a very physical game which included two penalties and a marvellous goal from the halfway line.
Harry’s parents, Sara and Jon, were immensely proud to see their son play for England, and said it was a dream come true.
His mother Sara said: “Seeing Harry walk out of the tunnel on to the pitch with the Three Lions on his shirt and then singing the national anthem was such a special moment that very few parents are able to experience.£
Harry started his football journey aged four playing on Saturday mornings in Horsham park.
He worked his way through grass-roots teams, trialling at West Ham United and Millwall along the way before signing a contract at Brighton & Hove Albion two years ago - proof that hard work and dedication pays off.
Harry is now hoping for his next England call up in November.
