It’s National Racehorse Week and Nick Gifford (pictured below) is among trainers taking part in this part of the world.

Gifford’s The Downs

Stables in Findon (BN14

0RR) are staging an open day on Saturday as part of a nationwide celebration of the racehorse supported by Great British Racing.

Trainers up and down the country are opening thier yards to promote how well the horses are looked after by the staff and all about racing.

A spokesman at the Gifford yard said: “We are open from about 10am to 12.30 and will be taking the people who have signed up on to the gallops to watch the horses.

“We will have a horse physio in doing a demo, a farrier and a couple of jockeys. We will be selling cakes and tea and coffee.

“Tabitha Worsley ( the jockey who rides Rose of Aghaboe) will be down and we are hoping for a couple more jockeys too.

Also taking part in this week’s event are Sussex trainers Gary Moore, Suzy Smith and Diana Grissell.

The whole national initative is being billed as a chance to see first-hand the love, care and attention that goes into looking after racehorses.

In an experience like no other, racing training yards up and down the country, including training centres such as Epsom, Malton and Newmarket are opening their doors to showcase the fantastic lives that these magnificent animals lead.

As well as the 130+ open day’s taking place during National Racehorse Week there are a number of videos showcasing some behind the scenes access via a ‘Virtual Week’.

Organisers will be premiering a video each day via the Great British Racing Facebook page at midday, up to this Friday.

The same video will then be posted across Twitter, Instagram and YouTube.
