Excitement building for Autumn Show & Game Fair

- Oli Poole Editor ws.letters@jpimedia.co.uk

Clay pigeon shooting, fly fishing and archery will be among the activities on offer once again as the Autumn Show & Game Fair returns.

Hands-on activities were off the agenda last year due to the pandemic – but organisers of this year’s show are delighted to be able to offer a fuller programme at the event, on October 2 and 3.

The annual event, at the South of England Showground, Ardingly, will also include dog agility, gundog displays and exciting scurries and terrier races where visitors’ dogs can have a go too.

Corrie Ince, show director at The South of England Agricultural Society, said: “Following the success of the South of England Show earlier this year we are confident that we can host another actionpacked event.

“We have been deemed a ‘Good to Go’ venue by Visit England and we will continue to closely follow the latest government guidelines as safety remains of utmost importance for this and any show we hold.

“It is very exciting that we can offer our visitors a true handson experience of the countryside this year after not being able to do so fully in 2020.”

The Autumn Show & Game Fair will offer a programme of demonstrations and displays that celebrate countryside sports and the autumn harvest.

Animal lovers can meet and learn about farmyard favourites in the Animal Barn, admire the wagging tails of the rare breed gundogs and enjoy the falconry demonstrations.

Foodies can whet their appetite with the ever-popular shopping opportunities from local and independent producers.

Plus, there will be a plethora of food stalls to choose from when it comes to eating at the event.

The whole family can enjoy the high-energy main ring acts including cavalry displays from Sussex Yeomanry, the Cavalcade of Hounds and gundog training, and children will be able to try the activity trail, traditional funfair, pony rides and synchronised kite flying displays.

Unique vintage agricultural machinery, Scammell and traction engines will also be on display to recreate and educate about a bygone era.

The society’s education team will be highlighting The Queen’s Green Canopy at the show, the project to plant trees from October 2021 to mark their patron’s Platinum Jubilee in 2022, alongside the Woodland Trust, which will be joining them.
