READERS’ CHARTER

- PHILIP THOMAS, Poling, Arundel

the easy life. Thoughtless and irresponsible closures and opening hour restrictions.

There was no real problem with overcrowding and queues until the council decided to reduce opening hours and close certain tips on some days in the week.

At the same time, the local population has been increasing rapidly. Decreasing supply and increasing demand.

Surprise surprise – bottlenecks, long queues and genuine overcrowding.

Hardly rocket science, but clearly way beyond the ability of the council to anticipate.

All the tips should be open for seven days a week – 8 am8pm or dusk, if earlier, in the winter.

Then the public can choose when they want to visit, and will quickly self-regulate to spread the load. Nobody likes queuing.

I have little doubt that we will be stuck with this ridiculous system for as long as it takes to get someone in the council with some sense, common or otherwise. Doomsday springs to mind.
