Claudia Court is guest for poetry

EX-BBC journalist Claudia Court is the headline guest at the New Parkcentre­inchichest­erforthe latestopen­micpoetrys­essionon Wednesday, March 27 at 7.30pm when poets gather to share their new poems and be inspired by a visiting guest writer.

Claudia Court recently returned to the area after many years in London, working as a journalist on national newspapers and for the BBC. She began writing poetry in earnest on her retirement and has had two books published, How to Punctuate a Silence and School Milk, both from Dempsey and Windle. Her poems have appeared in a variety of mag- a zines and journals and have won several prizes.

Open Mic organiser Barry Smith said, ‘It’s a pleasure to welcome Claudia to New Park. She is well-known in the poetry community for her two Dempsey and Windle publicatio­ns and her contributi­ons to leading poetry magazines such as Orbis. She is also a member of Chichester Stanza, the local branch of the Poetry Society, which meets monthly to discuss new poems bythemembe­rs.claudiaalw­ays has pertinent observatio­ns drawn from her experience to help shape and refine the early drafts of poets’ writing. After Claudia’s readings, local poets will have the chance to share the spotlight as they read their own new poems. We’re constantly delighted by the range and quality of the writing presented at the open mic. And our audiences are always supportive, so newcomers can be sure of a warm response. It all adds up to a stimulatin­g evening”
