MP says potholes are a ‘cause for concern’

-

Chichester MP Gillian Keegan has spoken out about potholes in the city and on the area’s rural roads which she said were a ‘great cause for concern’.

Sussex World and its weekly newspapers – which includes the Gazette – invited readers to drive home the message to our county councils and politicians about potholes blighting our roads. We also urged readers to send in photographs and video of potholes near you – taken safely.

There were more than 100 comments on the Observer’s Facebook page after we published photos of some of the worst potholes on roads in the city centre.

Reader Denisa Dervish wrote: “I've cracked my wheel for the second time recently due to amounts of potholes in and around Chichester.”

Another reader, Karen Wheeler said: “Church Road and Shore Road in the Witterings have massive potholes. The one in Church Road is so big that just over half of a traffic cone is visible and drivers have to drive on the wrong side of the road to avoid it.”

Patrick Saintas added: “It is an embarrassment to see the state of the roads in or around Chichester.”

Gillian Keegan, the MP for Chichester and Secretary of State for Education, has added her comments on the issue. She said: “Potholes are a blight on our roads and pose a significant risk to drivers. Some of the examples I've seen around Chichester, as well as on more rural roads, are a great cause for concern for me and the residents.” Residents can report potholes through the council website – www.westsussex.gov. uk/roads-and-travel/report-apothole-online.
