Glovers sign Warburton in loan deal
YEOVIL Town have signed front man Matt Warburton on loan from Northampton ahead of this afternoon’s National League home clash with Wrexham.
The striker has scored twice for the Cobblers this season, but switches to the Somerset club on a temporary deal until the end of the current campaign.
Warburton is certainly no stranger to the non-League scene, especially around Manchester, having played for Curzon Ashton, Salford and Stockport in the National League North.
The 2018-19 season saw him secure promotion to the National League with Stockport by winning the sixth tier. Warburton netted 18 league goals in the process, 25 in all competitions, averaging just shy of a goal every other game.
From there he stepped up to the EFL for the first time, signing for Northampton, who won the League Two play-offs final at the end of last season.
Warburton told the official club website: “I’m excited to be here, it’s a great football club and once I knew there was interest from the manager, he sold the club to me and I want to be a part of it and get this team promoted.
“I don’t know too much, but everybody I’ve spoken to has said it’s a well run club and positive about the style they play. It’s a great opportunity for me.”
Yeovil have started the season with a pair of 2-2 draws, while Wrexham have a win and a loss.
Meanwhile, in the National League North, Gloucester City go to Chorley, but Hereford’s home clash with Bradford Park Avenue is off due to a positive Covid-19 case in the Bradford ranks.
In the National League South, Bath City host Billericay, while Chippenham have a home fixture with Braintree.
