West cider festival to go ahead in summer

-

ONE of the biggest cider festivals in the South West will be going ahead this summer, organisers have confirmed.

Witcombe Cider Festival 2021 organisers are currently planning their line-up and hope to have tickets on sale by the end of March.

Last year’s Witcombe Cider Festival, which actually takes place in Brockworth in Gloucestershire, was cancelled due to Covid-19 restrictions like every other festival in the UK.

With all restrictions on outdoor events lifted by June 21 at the earliest, festival organisers are planning to go ahead in their usual August bank holiday weekend slot.

There will be some changes to the line-up this year, however, says festival founder Joe Pointon.

This year there will be a push to

having UK-based artists on the line-up.

Joe said: “We were hoping that we could use our 2020 line-up but some of our headliners were overseas and international artists. With the travelling ban, at the moment they’d have to quarantine in a hotel for ten days.

“We’re looking at UK artists and we’ve put several offers in.”

The event has grown exponentially since it first began in Witcombe Cricket club in

2012 as the Witcombe Cider Festival.

With a capacity of 10,000, Joe is keen to pay tribute to the sacrifices that have been made during the pandemic so will be offering 500 free tickets to Gloucestershire NHS workers.

Festival tickets have been in high demand since Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s announcement that by June 21 all restrictions on outdoor events could be lifted.
