Lufthansa announces new daily service from West airport

-

THE idea of a weekend break in a European city might be something of a distant dream at the moment, but airline Lufthansa is looking ahead with optimism with the announcement of a new daily service from Bristol Airport.

Flights will begin between Bristol and the German city of Frankfurt from the end of June, the airline has revealed.

Frankfurt has a lot going for it in terms of air travel - it’s one of Europe’s major multi-hub destinations that you can then fly to anywhere in the world from, it’s Germany’s business and finance capital, and for the tourist, has world-class attractions like the opera house, Goethe Museum and Deutsches Film Museum.

Andreas Koster, the senior director of sales for the UK for Lufthansa, said the new daily flights from Frankfurt to Bristol was a big endorsement of Bristol.

“We are looking forward to resuming our Bristol service this upcoming summer and offering our customers great connectivity within our worldwide, multi-hub system,” he said.

“As one of the largest carriers in Europe, with just a short stopover in Frankfurt, our customers will have access to hundreds of connections to numerous destinations within our vast, global network.

“The Frankfurt service demonstrates Lufthansa’s commitment to the UK market and will provide increased connectivity to long-haul destinations such as Tokyo, Cape Town and Singapore.

“Supporting the development of tourism and business links between both markets, the service will also create additional employment opportunities,” he added.

It is good news for Bristol, according to Dave Lees, the CEO of Bristol Airport. The airline had begun a twice-daily flight programme between Bristol and Frankfurt back in the autumn of 2019, but that was scrapped with the onset of the coronavirus pandemic just a few months later.

“This is incredibly positive news for Bristol Airport and the region,” he said. “Lufthansa is a major global airline and this decision shows confidence in air travel returning to normal.

“The new daily service commencing June 28 between Bristol and Frankfurt opens up a wide range of European and worldwide connections to our customers.”
