JONNY May is set to make his 150th Gloucester Rugby appearance today when the Cherry and Whites travel to Sale Sharks in the Gallagher Premiership.

The Gloucester Rugby Academy graduate, pictured, played 138 times for the club between 2009 and 2017, scoring 62 tries and quickly becoming a fan favourite at Kingsholm.

After a brief spell at Leicester Tigers, the flying winger who has also become a fixture in Eddie Jones’ England side, returned to Gloucester in 2020. Meanwhile, Gloucester who were knocked out of the Champions Cup round of 16 by French side La Rochelle earlier this month, will be keen to build on the 34-18 victory over champions Exeter Chiefs at Kingsholm in their most recent Gallagher Premierhsip outing.

However, points have proved hard to come by on the road as Gloucester have won just once away from home in any competition since August and that was by a single point, 19-20, at Wasps on March 6.

Wales wing Louis Rees-Zammit returns to the Gloucester line-up today, and is among a number of changes from the side beaten by La Rochelle. Other starters include scrum-half Charlie Chapman, hooker Jack Singleton and lock Alex Craig.

Sale Sharks only defeat in the last five rounds of Gallagher Premiership Rugby was 14-17 at Northampton on March 13. The Sharks have won their last three home games at the AJ Bell Stadium, their best run at the venue for a year. They show six changes from the team beaten by European Cup quarter-final opponents La Rochelle last weekend. Full-back Luke James, wing Arron Reed and lock JP Du Preez are among those called up, while scrum-half Faf De Klerk skippers the side.

Sale have lost just once to Gloucester in their last five meetings: 16-18 at AJ Bell Stadium in October 2019.

■ Hooker Todd Gleave, 25, has joined Pro14 side Ospreys on loan for the rest of the season, Gloucester have confirmed. The news comes a week after South African hooker Corne Fourie also left the club.
