Did MP Mercer quit or was he pushed?

-

I WAS surprised at just how quickly the infamous six collapsed to fan pressure, but how predictable that ‘jump on a bandwagon’ Boris Johnson started to threaten legal action – and then in his press conference yesterday started to back down. I expect he thought, “job done, let’s move on to the next one”.

I’m convinced that he is so delusional that he thinks the British electorate love him. We already know that in his mind’s eye he considers himself to be the new Churchill. I would say he’s nothing more that a shoddy clone of Tony Blair – another politician who was neither Tory nor Labour, but only there for his own advancement.

The sleaze of money for questions and expenses from yesteryear is already being matched, if not exceeded. Even this week it’s reported that a former Tory party candidate was awarded a £102.6 million eye-watering contract for the supply of PPE kit to the NHS, without any competition.

Also reported this week, Number 10 issued a ‘thank you’ to Johnny Mercer for his time as Veterans Minister ‘when he resigned,’ only for an outraged Mr Mercer to respond that he was sacked because he was opposed to Johnson’s exclusion of veterans who had served in NI from the Overseas Operations Bill, who were accused of unlawful killings as a sap to the IRA, despite his promises to them.

Now we are told that he won’t be appearing in his State Briefing Rooms built at a cost of millions – in fact, no one will. Add this to the bike lanes that lead nowhere and were mostly not used, along with his deputy PM’s refurbishment of Number 10 at a cost of hundreds of thousands, and you get a picture of a PM who actually considers himself to be above others, much like Blair and Cameron. If the Tory party can’t be bothered to stir themselves to get rid of him as PM, they will crash in the polls as Major and Brown did in the past. They will have no one to blame except themselves.
