-

A MAN is in a serious condition after an attack by an armed gang.

The assault happened in Tuffley, Gloucester, on Thursday afternoon.

Police say at about 3.40pm two men were attacked by three other men with weapons, including a knife, on Tuffley Lane.

One man in his 50s suffered serious injuries and was taken to Gloucestershire Royal Hospital by the ambulance service where he remains in a stable condition.

The other man, in his 30s, received minor wounds which were treated at the scene.

Police officers were conducting extra patrols in the area yesterday to reassure the community.

Yesterday morning officers went to a school near where the incident happened to provide support to pupils who may have been affected by the incident.

Detective Inspector Louise Missen said: “We are asking anyone who witnessed this incident and who has not yet spoken to police to get in touch.

“We’re in the early stages of an investigation but at this stage it’s thought that this was not a random attack but that those involved were known to each other. This was a serious attack that happened at a time and place where many people were passing by. If you saw any suspicious activity in the area around the time, or witnessed the incident unfold, please contact us.”

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call police on 101 and quote incident 276 of June 24.
