KANE’S THE BEST, SAYS GREALISH

- SIMON PEACH

GARETH Southgate’s 26-man squad all trained on the eve of England’s Euro 2020 quarterfinal against Ukraine.

The reward for Tuesday’s 2-0 last16 win against Germany at Wembley is today’s clash against Andriy Shevchenko’s side in Rome

The Three Lions’ full squad trained at their St George’s Park base yesterday morning. Mason Mount and Ben Chilwell were among those in action, having left isolation on the day of the Germany match after coming into contact with Chelsea team-mate Billy Gilmour, who tested positive for Covid-19 after playing for Scotland against England.

Harry Maguire, Declan Rice, Kalvin Phillips and Phil Foden are a booking away from a suspension heading into the quarter-final.

Meanwhile, Jack Grealish, who won his 10th cap when coming off the bench on Tuesday, says Harry Kane is the best he has ever played with and has no doubt England’s captain will go on to break goalscoring records with club and country. Kane headed to the Euros on the back of another Golden Boot-winning campaign at Tottenham, where he also produced the most Premier League assists in 2020/21.

The 27-year-old striker came under scrutiny after three scoreless group games, but Grealish is hoping to have helped kickstart his tournament by providing the cross for Kane to score his first goal in the win against Germany.

Speaking ahead of today’s quarterfinal, Grealish, 25, said: “To get his first one, he will be buzzing but noone in there would ever doubt H.

He’s the best player I’ve ever played with. He’s an unbelievable professional on and off the pitch. When you see him around the place, this is why he is England captain. The thing that sticks out is that he’s not just a goalscorer.

“There are players from the past who just scored goals, goals, goals. In my opinion he will break the Premier League one and the England one but he is not just a goalscorer. He is unbelievable. Like when he drops deep and finds passes and puts it through people’s legs.”
