Those who wish to stand as a candidate for the position have until Friday, July 23, at 4pm to submit the paperwork.

Returning officer and Wiltshire Council chief executive, Terence Herbert, said: “It’s important to us to run a safe, smooth and democratic election.

“Our elections team recently delivered the highest number of elections ever seen in Wiltshire, and given the pandemic, certainly the most complex.

“And having come out the other side of that successfully and professionally, the team is in a great frame of mind and ready for next month.

“The role of the Police and Crime Commissioner and the outcome of this election will have an impact on our day-to-day lives, so I’d encourage everyone to make sure voting is part of their summer plans.”

People have until Tuesday, August 3, to ensure their names are on the electoral register and those already registered do not need to reregister.

The PCC is responsible for holding the chief constable of Wiltshire Police to account and for the totality of policing across Swindon and Wiltshire.

The polls open on Thursday, August 19, from 7am until

10pm.
