UK can’t rely on energy imports

-

EVERY political party is at pains to demonstrate how ‘green’ they are. We are not, and probably won’t be for decades to come, the sort of ‘green and pleasant land’ some of the fanatics, particularly the Extinction Rebellion and Insulate Britain mobs, think we can become overnight without serious effects on the wellbeing of the majority of people in this country.

The mega rich will be able to ride out the storm, but it’s the other 95% of the population which will bear the brunt.

The nimbys of this land don’t want us to mine coal, don’t want fracking which could solve most of our energy woes for decades to come, don’t want nuclear because it’s got bad connotations, don’t want tidal barriers because they’re too expensive and will upset the fish and don’t want coal fired power stations because they pollute the atmosphere.

All these nimbys seem perfectly happy for us to import oil, coal, gas etc. as long as the damage is done in somebody else’s backyard – overseas!

The fact that our energy supplies could be cut off at the drop of a hat just doesn’t seem to come into their righteous reckoning.

Successive governments have ducked the question of adequate gas storage or spending on a reliable source of energy, like fracking or nuclear to keep our energy needs adequately satisfied, but have been more than willing to subsidise wind and solar farms which have been shown to be hopelessly inadequate for Britain every time the weather is ‘wrong’.

When will politicians take the bull by the horns and have a cross party consensus on reliable future energy needs and do something for the generations to come and not just pander to those who will back them at the next election. We need a mixture of these methods if we never want to return to the ‘Dark Ages’. Energy doesn’t come cheap, get used to it Britain.
