1,000 posts as Amazon plans for Christmas
RETAIL giant Amazon is set to create more than 1,000 seasonal roles in Bristol as it prepares for the festive period.
The firm has announced it is hiring for the temporary roles at its sites in Avonmouth and Severn Beach, including at its fulfilment and sorting centres and delivery stations.
It is also looking for staff to distribute parcels through its Flex delivery service.
The move is part of a wider UK recruitment drive as it seeks to take on 20,000 people to help in the runup to Christmas.
Amazon said its operations role started at £10 per hour, rising to £11.10 per hour in some parts of the UK for all full-time, part-time, temporary or seasonal roles. The flexible roles at its Bristol delivery station will pay between £13 and £15 per hour.
Christopher Law, general manager at Amazon’s Bristol fulfilment centre, said: “We prepare year-round for the festive season, and we’re excited to have more than 1,000 positions available this year in Bristol.
“Our seasonal associates play an integral role in helping us deliver an exceptional experience for our customers. We look forward to welcoming back seasonal workers who return year after year to Amazon and to welcome new faces to the team, many of whom will continue on to full-time roles with the company after the festive period.”
The company is also set to open a delivery station in Gloucester this autumn. The 11,000 sq m logistics warehouse will be at Centre Severn in Barnwood and will serve Amazon customers across the county.
With the creation of the massive warehouse will come the availability
of 20 permanent jobs, in addition to 90 driver opportunities for Amazon Logistics’ delivery service partners and Amazon Flex delivery partners.
Figures released this month by Amazon reveal the firm has invested around £1.4bn in the West Country since 2010.
In its first detailed impact report into its regional investment across the UK, Amazon highlighted the fact more than 2,400 full and part-time jobs had been created in the South West.
John Boumphrey, Amazon’s UK country manager said: “The region has been a fantastic home for us for many years, and we are excited by the opportunity to continue to invest, invent and have a positive impact in the local community.”
Amazon employs more than 55,000 permanent members of staff across its UK operations.
