RAPPER Kanye West has announced he is to take on his friend Donald Trump for the position of president of the United States.
With four months until election day, the 21-time Grammy winner celebrated American Independence Day by revealing his plans on Twitter.
He tweeted: “We must now realise the promise of America by trusting God, unifying our vision and building our future. I am running for President of the United States. #2020VISION.’
Following his tweet, bookies slashed his odds of winning the White House from 500/1 to 50/1.
The rapper, who recently signed a 10-year deal with Gap through his Yeezy clothing brand, is reportedly yet to file any paperwork to get on state election ballots.
He has missed the deadline for Texas, New York, and Indiana, but still has time to file as an independent candidate across most states.
The hip-hop star and fashion mogul, married to Kim Kardashian, has previously been criticised over his friendship with Trump, a Republican who has low support among black Americans.
If he runs, he would undoubtedly attract many black votes as well as wife Kim Kardashian’s millions of followers.
It’s a heck of thought to imagine the rapper as President of the United States.
