Portishead pool delays reopening
BOSSES of a popular open air pool in North Somerset have announced it will not reopen this year.
During hot weather, Portishead pool, pictured above, is packed with swimmers cooling down while also enjoying the stunning sea views.
But this year trustees say they have made the “difficult” decision not to open due to new social distancing measures.
Under the current rules, they say reopening would not be financially viable and could put the pool’s future at risk. It is hoped swimmers will be able to return in April 2021.
Chairman of the venue Jon Barr said: “Having examined the guidance from Swim England and the Royal Life Saving Society we saw that all we would be able to provide, when allowed to reopen, would be a highly regulated lane swimming experience.
“We are a community pool and we value the diversity of our pool users. At present, we cannot offer that safe, financially viable and inclusive opportunity to the residents of Portishead and visitors to our town.
“When we can, the trustees will be ready to plan reopening.”
It is anticipated swimming pools across England will be given the green light to reopen soon from Government but no firm date has been given.
