Take responsibility for your failures, PM
IN response to Robert Readman (‘It’s time to get tough on the scofflaws’, WDP July 6) water cannons were bought by Boris Johnson when Mayor of London without official approval. Theresa May, Home Secretary, refused their use in 2015 as they were deemed illegal.
After spending over £300,000 they were found to be unsaleable and eventually unloaded for scrap. The £11,000 Sadiq Khan received went to youth projects.
But hey, please never let the facts get in the way of a good ‘law and order’ story and an opportunity to big-up Johnson.
Surely the concern today should be Boris Johnson’s evident contempt for some of the lowest paid and hardest working members of our society, many from BAME backgrounds.
These people apparently caused their own disaster by not following Government guidelines for care homes but I am not sure to which procedures Johnson is referring.
So care homes did not have PPE, they did not lock down early enough, they used peripatetic care workers, they were not testing care workers, they encouraged the policy of dumping people in care homes from hospitals without testing. Surely this carnage cannot be anything to do with this Government?
As if by magic the fake news seed is planted, remember the reporting around Hillsborough and Grenfell.
When will this woeful Government take responsibility for their part in the mishandling of the Covid-19 crisis?
It would not be possible to go through this unprecedented disaster without some mistakes being made, but please do not insult the electorate’s intelligence by constantly passing the buck.
