GLOUCESTER Rugby have signed Matt Garvey on a short-term deal. Garvey, 32, who has represented England Saxons and can operate at lock or flanker, has previously played for London Irish and Bath, who he left earlier this summer.

The forward, pictured, has great leadership experience, having been named club captain at West Country rivals Bath, and will start training with his new teammates today.

“We are really happy that Matt has agreed to join Gloucester Rugby. He is a fierce competitor and a true professional, which is exactly the type of player we want in our squad,” Kingsholm boss George Skivington told the official club website.

“With his leadership, experience and power he will be a valuable asset to us for the rest of the season.”

It is believed Garvey’s initial deal will run until the end of the 2019/20 campaign, which will restart next month and go on until October. He and Skivington played together at London Irish.

Garvey said: “I’m really relishing the opportunity to join Gloucester

Rugby. I know George will be driving the club forward, and I’m really excited to play my part in that in the coming months.”

Gloucester have also signed Samoa prop Logovi’i Mulipola on a shortterm contract.

The front-rower has been capped 31 times by his country and has the ability to play on both sides of the scrum.

Skivington added: “It’s great to have a player of Logovi’i’s stature joining us. He is a knowledgeable player who can play a key part in the remainder of our season. I know he’ll come in and hit the ground running.”
