First Bus driver tests positive for Covid-19

-

A FIRST Bus driver on a service between Bath and Bristol has tested positive for coronavirus.

The company’s boss James Freeman, pictured, says First was alerted by a customer and this led to the driver taking the test.

Everyone who has come into contact with the bus driver is being tested for the virus, First says.

Mr Freeman said: “We can confirm that a driver on a bus service between Bath and Bristol has tested positive for Covid-19 whilst displaying no symptoms and is now self-isolating. This is normal procedure in line with standard government guidance for any individual testing positive.

“Our number one priority is the safety and wellbeing of our drivers and customers.

“We continue to run an enhanced cleaning regime across our entire fleet of buses. This involves daily disinfection of all driver and customer touchpoints onboard and a specialist long-lasting sanitising treatment, which kills coronavirus on surfaces.

“On all our vehicles, the driver’s cab is secured with both a solid plastic shield and a covering to seal off any gaps and we continue to provide all drivers with protective equipment such as disposable gloves and facemasks to wear when they are not in the secure cab area.

“We urge all customers to comply with the Government’s rules by wearing a face covering on public transport, social distancing and sanitising your hands before and after travel.

“If everyone plays their part in following these rules, the risk of transmission is reduced and it will help our drivers and their fellow passengers travel safely, as we start to move out of lockdown.”
