Search for two missing uni students still ongoing

- JACK COLWILL news@westerndailypress.co.uk

SEARCHES are continuing for two University of Bath students who were reported missing within days of each other.

Alec Unsgaard and Martin Bowers, who are both students at the university, were reported missing after last being seen on Friday, September 18 and Saturday, September 19 respectively.

Alec, 21, is originally from Sweden, having moved to the UK to study. He is an international relations and politics student and, according to his family, had saved the money to travel to the UK himself for two years.

He was last seen at the university campus at 6.10pm and spoke with a friend on the phone between 10pm and 11pm.

Alec is described as white, of slim build, around 5ft 6ins, with short blond curly hair.

He has a tattoo on his left tricep, just above his elbow, of a picture frame containing a tree-lined alleyway. There are Swedish words written within the frame and the tattoo is all in black ink.

He currently lives in student accommodation at the university.

He was reported missing by his mother and was last seen on the university campus on Friday.

Officers involved in the search for Alec are said to be growing “increasingly concerned” for his welfare.

His family also released a statement saying: “We are extremely worried and greatly appreciate all the help that can be given to locate Alec. I would encourage people to look out for Alec and call the police with any sightings or information that would help us to find him.”

Martin Bowers is a third-year student, 5ft 10ins tall and has ginger hair.

Martin, 20, from Staffordshire, is in his third year of study at the university.

He is described as about 5ft 10ins, of a large build and having ginger hair.

Martin could possibly have travelled to the Bristol area since he was last seen, but police are not ruling out any possible locations.

DS Hannah Marsh, from Avon and Somerset Police, said: “The last confirmed sighting of Martin was at about noon on Saturday in the Marsden Road area of Bath.

“Inquiries about his subsequent movements are continuing.”

Martin is understood by police to have used public transport on September 19, the day he was last seen.

However, it is not confirmed that he left the Bath area.

Police said: “We believe he may have travelled using public transport on Saturday, but are also keeping an open mind as to whether he has stayed in the Bath area.”

People are being asked to call 999 if they see either of the two, who were both last seen in the city.

Police are not considering the two disappearances as linked.
