Robins’ trip to the Orient is given go ahead

CHELTENHAM Town will play Leyton Orient away on Saturday as planned.

The League Two fixture had been in some doubt after Orient’s previous two matches were postponed due so several confirmed coronaviru­s cases in their squad.

Their match against Walsall was called off last weekend after they were forced to forfeit a EFL Cup tie against Tottenham Hotspur the previous mid-week.

Cheltenham have so far lost at home to Morecambe and beaten Tranmere Rovers away in their League Two matches this term. Michael Duff ’s team were beaten 1-0 at Orient on the opening day of last season and finished the match with nine men.

Meanwhile, Jake Doyle-Hayes looks set for a move to League One after his successful loan spell at Cheltenham Town last term, writes Jon Palmer.

The Irish midfielder was released by Premier League club Aston Villa this summer.

Robins Michael Duff has confirmed he would have loved to signed Doyle-Hayes on a permanent basis, but he was out of Cheltenham’s price range in terms of wages.

His only goal came in a thrilling 3-2 home victory over Bradford City, but he impressed with his tenacity, consistenc­y and quality on the ball as Duff ’s side reached the play-offs with a fourth-placed finish.

Doyle-Hayes had spent time on loan at Cambridge United during the 2018/19 campaign, but his stay there was hampered by injury.
